ArtTag:Inspire curated by Leisel Whitlock

  • Village Theatre Gallery Danville, CA (map)

To the uninitiated viewer, the art-making process can be baffling. For the artist, it is difficult, at times heartbreaking work that necessitates the exploration of new topics or new ways of creating in order to break through artist blocks or solve technical and conceptual challenges.

Collaborative efforts such as Art Tag can push an artist's creative boundaries by partnering with other artists to create new work around a theme. In Art Tag, the first artist pushes the second to reinterpret the work in completely new ways and in the process, experiment with new ideas, media, and methods.

This group exhibition explores how one piece of art can inspire another by displaying the Art Tag pairs and gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the creative process. It also displays each artist’s realized artwork, which has been directly or indirectly influenced by an Art Tag Session.
